bonnie cashin: girlhood fashion and costume illustrations, 1920-1930

Along with fashion, Cashin was captivated by the Ballets Russes. She was exposed to their San Francisco tour in the teens, and studied published images of Bakst's and Erté's costume drawings. She adapted their hallmarks to a series of dance costume sketches.
Pencil and watercolor illustrations, c. 1923.
