"the cashin look"

During a trip to Japan, Cashin collected antique Japanese textiles. Illustrating her love of "cross-fertilizing" materials and silhouettes from different cultures, she used this kimono fabric to make a cocktail suit, consisting of a slim sheath and a noh-style coat. She is photographed modeling her design, sewn by her mother, at a Fashion Group conference in 1958.
